Vision and Values
At St Edmundsbury C of E Primary Academy, our vision and values are at the core of everything we do. Our Christian Vision is based upon the following Bible verse:
Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up.
1 Thessalonians 5:11
The values which underpin our Christian Vision are:
Compassion Friendship Forgiveness Perseverance Respect Thankfulness
1 Thessalonians 5 vs 11 says ‘Therefore encourage one another and build each
other up’.
At St Edmundsbury Primary Academy, we are a caring Christian community who
believe in ‘One Another-ing’ This means actively looking for ways to contribute
to the thriving of others, in our families, classes, school, local community and
beyond.
Compassion: We care for one another. We empathise with other’s feelings and
want to support them in any way we can.
Respect: We respect one another and look to gain a better understanding of
each other through listening and asking questions.
Friendship: We are kind to one another. We are welcoming and invite others to
join our games.
Thankfulness: We are thankful for one another. We know that we need each
other to thrive, and we are grateful to everyone who helps us.
Forgiveness: We forgive ourselves and one another when we make mistakes.
Perseverance: We help one another when things get tough. We cheer each
other on and each other up.
Promoting British Values
St Edmundsbury C of E Primary Academy is committed to serving its community. We recognise the multi-cultural, multi faith and ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom. We also understand the vital role we have in ensuring that groups or individuals within our school community are not subjected to intimidation or radicalisation by those wishing to unduly, or illegally, influence them.
We follow equal opportunities guidance which guarantees that there will be no discrimination against any individual or group, regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, political or financial status, or similar. St Edmundsbury is dedicated to preparing children for the next stage in their education and life and ensuring that we promote and reinforce British values to all our children.
The Government emphasises that schools are required to ensure that key ‘British Values’ are taught in all UK schools. The government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy.
In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.
The five British Values are:
- Democracy
- The rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect
- Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
